Setting out

Post by Fool on November 19th 2011, 12:33 pm

Hello everyone,

I'm not sure what I can bring to this forum, as the clues to my progress on my spiritual journey are in the title of this post & my username.

The fool, in the Tarot, sets out full of hope & enthusiasm, blissfully unaware of the twists & turns in the journey ahead. That's pretty much where I am.

I'm intuitive.

I love the Tarot & have 3 different decks (Osho's Zen deck in particular works very well with me). I also really like the detail & meaning in the cards in the Rider Waite - Radiant - deck, but Crowley's Thoth set is a bit beyond me as I can't understand the symbolism, yet.

I'm an avid reader - after all it's much easier to read about all this 'stuff' rather than getting down to doing it Laughing Currently reading "The Three Dangerous Magi" by P.T. Mistlberger - excellent read - and "78 Degrees of Wisdom" by Rachel Pollack - brilliant book about the Tarot.

Also currently starting to meditate (again). I'm a dowser (lapsed) I do Reiki (def not lapsed!)

I know this is the right time for me & this is the right way to go; where I'm going to end up doesn't seem to matter in the least.

Hello Jackie,

A very warm welcome to the forum. Feel at home and share your views and experiences.
The Tarot cards are very symbolic process and their interpretation are meaningful.

Symbol designates something. It points to something or marks a place of potential meaning. Symbols that are linked create a map. A symbol is not a definition and therefore is not susceptible to literal interpretation. Symbols are a path toward mystery, the unknown/unconscious. That mystery is the central archetype of the Self.

Symbols properly recognised and understood possess great value: they are
‘evocative’ and induce direct intuitive understanding. Indeed, the fact that the words
indicating higher realities have their roots in sensuous experience serves to
emphasise the essential analogical correspondences between the external and the
inner worlds.

Yet symbols have their dangers. In fact, they who take them literally and do not pass
beyond the symbol to reality, but halts before it, does not arrive at the underlying
truth. Moreover symbols are unilateral. No symbol can express more than an aspect,
a quality, a partial conception of a given reality. This qualification can, however, be
obviated by the employment of different symbols to indicate the same truth. Thus the
sum, the convergence, the synthesis of many points of view can provide a greater
and more integrated understanding of the reality they symbolise

~*~

Be well
Elrick

Hi, welcome to the forum Welcome

Its very friendly with plenty to read.

I also have tree sets of Tarot Cards. I have The Rider Waite Deck, The Sharman Caselli Deck and The Native American Cards by Laura Tuan. I'm still learning to master them, but hopefully I'll get better.

I look forward to reading your posts.

Thank you very much for your warm welcomes.

Your words are very true, Elrick, and the symbolism of the Rider Waite & Zen decks speaks to me on an intuitive level.

The Crowley (Thoth) deck however uses occult symbolism as well as Hebrew letters, which I believe have a numerical significance, plus I'm sure there are many other signs & symbols which I'm just seeing as great artwork. To read & understand the full meaning of each card would mean taking a detour into a study of the world of symbolism, which looks like a very interesting subject, but the cards (Zen tarot) tell me to stay on track & 'stay focused', so seeing as I asked for advice I may as well take it!!

Peaceandkarma, which deck do you prefer working with? Have you seen Rachel Pollack's book "78 degrees of wisdom"? She discusses each card in such depth and points out how they relate to each other; it's a good resource book & also easy to read.

thanks for the info.

Now I'm glad I stayed away from the Thoth cards...LOL
There was something complicated eminating from them
so I'm glad I took heed to that.... They also sound time
consuming.

I only have Colette Baron-Reid's Wisdom cards.
I stay away from them also since they are
so true for me....
A second and third deck are Doreen Virtue's Archangel and
Masters cards that seem distant and bland in
any pull I might have to them. Her books
pulled me more than her cards.

I am very picky what I keep around me so maybe
thats why I have them to fill the dark corner with
light...LOL

Otherwise, I can't take any more changes...
I was always picking the Phoenix....
How many times can one burn and rise when
all I needed was to live serenely......LOL

Thank You Welcome Fool...LOL
