The Alexander Technique.
The Alexander Technique, taking control of your posture. ( This is a course that I went on two years ago, I was intrigued to learn about it)
What is the Alexander Technique? (Excerpt from The Alexander Technique Manual, by Richard Brennan)
The Alexander Technique is not so much something you learn as something you unlearn. It is a method of releasing unwanted muscular tension throughout your body which has accumulated over many years of stressful living. The excess tension often starts in child-hood and, if left unchecked, can give rise in later life to common ailments such as arthritis, neck and back pain, migraines, hypertension, sciatica, insomnia and even depression. Vast amounts of money are being spent on the treatment of these illnesses (to say nothing of the pain and discomfort that is endured by the sufferer) yet the number of patients continue to increase. With the right education, however, many people could be helped to understand the causes of their problems and be taught to help themselves, so that their aches and pains may either be relieved or avoided altogether.
The Alexander Technique can help us to become more aware of balance, posture and co-ordination while performing everyday actions. This brings into consciousness tensions throughout our body that have previously gone unnoticed, and it is these tensions which are very often the root cause of many common ailments. This is exactly what Frederick Matthias Alexander, the originator of the Technique, discovered when trying to get to the bottom of his own voice-related problem.

Re: The Alexander Technique.
I do have much tension in many of my muscles, i am not exactly sure how to release this tension. But what helps me is breath exercises this usually calms me, also i have tried a technique from a course i am taking, which helps relax all the muscles in the body. Before bed i will tense each muscle slightly and then release it from my feet all the way to my face muscles, if done right the body feels weightless and sometimes tingly.
I would very much like to try Alexanders technique, i will also look into it.
Thank You Vanilla2
Many Blessings

Re: The Alexander Technique.
May I just add that its best taught with a qualified practitioner first, then once you've learnt the technique, you can build it into your everyday activities, even when shopping (reaching the tops of the food counters)

Re: The Alexander Technique.
For any body wishing to try the Alexander Technique, this is a very good example of what it is all about, I went to an experienced practitioner and took six weekly sessions in a class of eight to ten. It was so worth it, its all about undoing bad posture habits that we have accumulated over the years.
