Great Mike! Very interesting. My daughter has told me an awful lot of some of the customs of this particular religion.
Remember I told you she works with many Indians in the Call Centre. All of different religions.

Thanks.

I would suppose that the U.K. is similar to America, in that as more people immigrate from places like the Middle East and India more color and flair are added to the Anglo Culture. It's interesting that in Portland, Oregon there are more Bhuddist Churches now than Baptist Churches in the inner-city. Your daughter is fortunate to be able to learn about this sort of thing.

Yes,that is right,Mike. Where the UK once only had such as C of England,Catholic,Methodist and other demonations of religion,we now have a very varied selection of Indian places of worship.

One would think that with all of those Hindus, Bhuddists, ect. moving into our area that there would be some problems. The truth is, no one seems to mind them. Now, the Moslems are another story. They seem to be slightly (sometimes downright) antagosistic towards the locals. There are a number of Mosques and Halal shops up and down the street where my best friend lives. One feels antagonism from them.

That's right,Mike. We have the same problems in the UK,Hindus are accepted and are so very friendly.
I've met a few through Molly through her work. They are respectful ,kind and friendly.
I often use their cabs to get home from Molly's. They chat with me and offer help in getting my bags out of the cab.
They tell me about their trips home to wherever they originated from. Normal friendly folks who just want to settle into a new life in a new country.

I agree. They are very friendly. You don't hear about Hindus and Bhuddists going around beheading people and setting off bombs.
I think the 'problem' with Islam is the Old Testament mentality they hold. And of course, I'm not trying to stereo-type. I'm aware that there are peace-loving Moslems also. At least, that's what I'm constantly told!

Where my daughter lives, the area is populated quite a bit by Indians. I use the description loosely,Mike. Basically because they are very much English in their ways. Young ones haunt the shops and town like our local young people. No doubt they keep their usual customs at home,e.g. religion etc.
Outside they are no different to any English youngest. Probably born and brought up in the English ways.

The older generation keep to their customs, the wearing of the long loose clothing for women but men are dressed as westerners.
A few of the elderly men wear the white trousers and loose white top.

The few that run the cabs are modern and very polite and friendly. More helpful than our own cabbies. I would say most of them are Hindis.

Not sure if I am using the right words there....

I think you are describing it accurately. It's the same here for the Indians. I'd call them Hindis also, although it might not always be accurate. But, it gets the point across.

I agree that peace should be aimed for. I'm a pessimist though. I have to hope it can happen.

Strange,Mike I was just in a discussion about that. How to aim for world peace.
Most of the answers were very negative.... Praying

Joan,
Justin and I went to the Hillsboro Temple last night for Ram Navami. The place was packed. Probably 150 to 200 people. I didn't get too many pictures, as I didn't feel comfortable snapping pictures of others. I got a good pic of the altar, ect. but forgot the camera in Portland! I'll get the couple of fotos to you in a day or two.
Meanwhile, here is a film of the Hillsboro Temple from Youtube. This gives you an idea of what it's like.
We had a LOT of fun. The dancing and singing were ecstatic, and the feast was wonderful.
We were there from 5:30 to about 10:00 pm.
Wish you could have been there with us!

Just watched it,Mike, have saved it to send to my daughter....I loved it. Always thought these kind of affairs were very serious.
I wouldn't have been able to stop myself joining in.....I like the music. Reminds me of the old Saturday night 'hops' as we used to call them years ago.
Everyone joined in. If when I try to send it to my daughter,it doesn't go through, would you send me the link by email, please?
Thanks Mike....
Joan

Joan,
Looking at the Youtube video, the temple almost reminds me of a Pentecostal Church. I'd never thought of it in that way before, but the raising of the hands, ect. is similar to the Pentecostal Christian expression.
