You used the word garden....Mia uses the word copse.....
I looked you are european as well so do different parts of England use different words for things? most americans would jsut say a yard with a field beyond the fence....ahhhhhh the world of languages

It is amazingly beautiful to see.. What is the bag hooked/tied on the tree for? Is it a new plant underneath or maybe a beetle bag?
Vanilla you have a beautiful yard and view.. do you take walks in the field? Looks like a great place to lay down and cloud gaze from lol

Laura ann I have always called them back gardens.

The field over the back has cows in plus one young calf, with one or two more soon to follow. Is owned by Ruth, hubby and son, not farmers, but people I have now got to know.
We can not get access as barbed wire surrounds the field only a few feet away from the end of our garden.
The white plaque you see at the bottom of the tree is in memory of my late dog Petra, she was 15 and its actually three years tomorrow, Easter Saturday she passed away. Her ashes are not scattered there, nor is she buried there, but its significance was during her last two weeks, she did once collapse under that tree, and I stayed with her and helped her up and back indoors. I can now sit and reminisce at least once a year for a few weeks, when that tree blossoms, which will be any time now.

Ha ha the bag is to protect it from one of my three dogs, the male, who continually cocks his leg.

So is a garden the yard and a copse more like a hidden sacred area?
I am amazed at language at times....still figuring our moors and dells and things called different names in different parts of the world.
I moved to another state in my country for a few years and had to adjsut language differences then ... a six hour difference made speech patterns different as well
like I turn off lights.. they cut off lights off.
I drove a person somewhere.. they carried them there. or a hand truck to them was a dolly to me.
I finally figured this kind of thing often has and does cause disagreements via internet because misunderstandings arise due to different translations of the same words.
thank you both Mia and Vanilla for explaining the words to me.. It is truly appreciated. helps me to have a better undertanding..
thank you again

Where our sun usually sets, to the far right of the garden in that photo, was where the full moon was 5am this morning. It was a beautiful sight, the moon was very large, very near, yet it was perched on the horizon in the same spot as the sun going down previously. I did take photos but none turned out well, as taken between the trees. I shall try again tomorrow morning, even if I have to go outside and walk to a beter spot.

Vanilla apologies for using your thread xx

Laura, a copse is a small group of trees.
A garden is a where grass, flowers etc are planted, children play there, we sit, sunbathe, hang washing on a line to dry there.
There also may be trees in a garden. But spread out.
If the trees are close together though, they would be a copse Smile

Your back yard is very beautiful Vanilla! It shows both a love of Nature and a love for poetic order. Functional yet beautiful. Harmony with a touch of wildness. Balanced utilization of space. Both a pet and people playground. Smile

Beautiful Garden, Linda said it i can imagine how peaceful and solitude this is. I too when i saw your yard saw myself enjoying such a nice piece of land to tend to. You keep it well tended Vanilla, this to me feels like a mini retreat, i love the trees how amazing, you are blessed to have such a nice place to sit and enjoy the day. What type of flowers have you planted? and the trees what kind?

My Alive Garden..... Empty Re: My Alive Garden.....

Post by Vanilla2 April 8th 2012, 4:34 am

I like the wild and uneven look of my garden. Our garden is the only one who has kept its trees, apart from two doors away who have a very large tree in the middle of there's.

When it comes alive with birds going about their duties is what to me makes it so pleasurable. From my small kitchen, I can look straight out through the glass panelled door, and that is the view I see. A month ago there were two young squirrels running along the fence and having fun chasing each other, and running and swinging from the trees. I also watched as one clung onto the far left bird feeder and somehow did manage to get food from inside. The third bird feeder is behind the feeder to the right, resting on the fence. Birds hop along the fence, some forming in queue, to feed from the tray.

Thank you for the compliments Sunmystic, it is a small garden, what you see is basically it, so I framed it to get as much in as possible. To the left there are one or two more trees and bushes, with hedging to the right.

I only wished we could get access into that field. At one time we were in the process of having a small wooden gate installed in the middle. That was just before they came along and erected barbed wire in readiness for installing their cows. To the left of that field there is a narrow stream out of view leading into the Glebe, another piece of open land which is very popular for us dog walkers with some council allotments to the left. Edited to add, I have also seen a young deer, foxes, pheasants and a heron in the field.

The wooden container to the right is where we grow salad veg, we shall be sowing our lettuce, beetroot, radish and spring onions now.
