I guess that my totem would be the antelope:

Antelope Imag010

"Antelope: Action, Speed, Adaptability of the Mind

Antelope teaches survival and how to avoid
indiscriminate destruction of life. The Antelope signifies knowledgeable
action. Antelope medicine is the knowledge of life's circle, the
knowledge and understanding of death. Through Antelope you can learn to
truly live and action is the key and essence to living. Antelope is the
messenger of a higher purpose; he knows the way and through him, so will
you. Antelope can teach clairvoyance by listening to his voice inside
of you. An Antelope person is intrinsically psychic. Often it is in the
form of clear-smelling - fragrances and odors will awaken this power.
Mediate using a fragrance with musk in it. Trust your instincts. If a
person or situation does not "smell" right, back away from it."

I have yet to fully work out mine. Yet I do know I love dogs, birds, and the sight of deer and foxes. Not forgetting the gracefulness of the Heron.

Well Vanilla, you are a complex person, it is hard to pin things down and limit them to just one. I picked the Antelope because their meat is tough and stringy and has zip for flavor.

Our animal totems change as our needs change or we change.
I had a she wolf once and her pack.
I loved her to bits.

I have had lion and eagle.

Magpie I love too.

My unicorn is always here though.

Methinks a meditation is in order, hopefully I can do that this weekend Smile

Antelope Imag016

"Falcon: Mental Speed, Agility and Grace:

Falcon soars high and its gift to you is that ability -
to soar high and see the big picture. If you stand too close to a
situation, sometimes you can only see what is right in front of you -
rather than the whole panorama. Falcon also teaches control of speed and
movement. It shows how to recognize opportunities and act upon them at
only the correct moment. Watching a Falcon will show you to fully commit
and when to act to achieve success. People with Falcon totems like to
be a position where they can see everything around them. Study Falcon to
use your mental facilities more effectively and more patiently to
attain what you most need and desire. Falcon people are often
independent and need alone time to be happy. They have a sharp mind and
are very agile."

The antelope seems to fit well sunmystic usually the first totem you feel drawn to or have seen often might be your totem.

Found these key words for the antelope:

Antelope: Active, agile, jumpiness, and willing to sacrifice

Mia wrote:Our animal totems change as our needs change or we change.

Mia summed it up well, i never actually thought of our totems actually changing but when i read this i was in total agreeance it makes alot of sense. Guess that was my intuition agreeing. Rolling Eyes

Mine is the lonely skunk i see them during the spring, summer, fall months in my garden, or in the driveway they love walking through i think they just like the vegetables Apple

The owl and the raven very powerful totems. Thumb

The owl speaks for itself - Wisdom and you have much wisdom you share it all the time i learn so much from your words sunmystic.

The raven on the other hand, without me looking it up. I get the feeling of Independant, Mystical, the raven can be the dominate among the birds they always seem to get what they need to survive. Their colors are bold and intimidating. But yet they have keen senses of pin pointing what they want in life. They are confident and fearless.

Well hope that was okay for an interpretation, i'm still working on becoming more confident and trusting what comes to me more regularly, without questioning anything i pick up.

We have ourselves an orphaned blackbird, I believe he is male with his orange beak. He was orphaned from our garden, cant remember whether from last year or the year before, I'm sure it was last year.
He has come into my life every day now. First really noticed him early in the morning when still asleep in bed, maybe 3am, 4am, I am a very early riser so he didn't put me out, in fact now I listen out for him, although he now goes further away and sings his little heart out. I'm sure its his mating call, as as yet, he hasn't found himself a mate, or has he? Smile

He sings and sings, even when I go in the garden, It is silent, yet I can hear only his voice, his song, somewhere in the distance, then around 5 or 6am, he is back singing perched on a branch of one of my trees. The last couple of days he has come back to the garden and made a patch on the grass, where I put down some seed, his territory, by chasing some smaller birds away. I have three bird feeders, one laying on the fence, but I haven't seen him feed from that one. This little blackbird seems to be permanently in my life at this moment in time. I listen for his song in the morning, and I can only relax once I have heard it, whether its when in the garden and he is at a distance, or better still when he is close by, perched on one of the branches.
He IS my TODAY Totem.

http://www.starstuffs.com/animal_totems/dictionary_of_birds.htm

Edited, he is back. He is the only Blackbird to visit my garden. Link

We do if we are American Indian. But I don't know much about how other cultures work relative to power animals. I have studied African black panther magik but I don't think that that is considered a totem.

What a truly magnificant animal that is .

I had a black panther that slept at my feet for about a year. I could feel it walking around on the bed... snuggle next to my legs then lay down.. By then I had had so many scare the pants off you experiences and had learned not to be afraid and embrace them and that many of them were coming from me purging that I did not have the sense to be afraid of it. I knew it was there just did not know what it was until it apppared in a reading. I have since seen it several times in dream visions but havent had it visit for a few years now..

I guess one of those totems that does it's quest then moves on...

let me see if I have an article on power animals etc...

thank goodness I saved stuff in my notepad lol
