Guess I will never know
Three mornings ago on checking my mail, there was a small brown envelope with stamp, but no frank mark nor cover note, inside there were two photos of my dogs that I had sent to one or two of my ex neighbors from where I used to live, some 20 odd miles away, that I rememebr I must have sent some 5/7 years ago. On the back of 1 photo was written "Jackie's dogs (2003)" it was not my writing nor (Eileen's) Immediately I thought something had happened to Eileen, that she had passed away, she had been in ill-health for many years but was a fighter, and maybe on clearing out her place her only daughter who I had met only once or twice had come across them and kindly sent them back, and assuming that I already knew, so no need for a cover note. I always remember of one time of meeting her the fuss she made of my late Petra guess thats why I was so sure the photos came from her. Immediately I phoned another ex-neighbour who had moved away, for him to confirm what my gut instinct was, that she had passed away 1/2 weeks ago. Next morning I tracked down another ex-neighbours phone number to see if she had Eileen's daughters number, so at least I could phone her and thank her for sending back the photos as otherwise I would have been none the wiser that she had passed away, on speaking to her she said that the funeral is tomorrow (yesterday) She gave me the daughters number and I managed to speak to her, she told me, no I never sent any photos to you, nor did she have any Idea as to who else in the family it could have been, and how would any one have gotten hold of my address, plus the fact that I had never met any other members of her family. During my conversation with her she confirmed Eileen's cremation was the next day, so I had not missed it, whoever sent and wherever these two photos came from was a blessing, that I guess I will never know, but hey "God works in mysterious ways"
I attended Eileen's cremation yesterday and all went well, she was 81 and will sadly be missed, she is now in Gods hands and hopeful will soon meet up with my late uncle, the strange thing is, the last time I was at this crematorium was around 10 something years ago, I actually took Eileen in my car as she had plaster cast on her leg and couldnt get there herself, we both stood together at my Uncles funeral who was a dear old friend of hers, yesterday I was doing the same, only this time it was for hers.

Vanilla,
What a touching story.
And a mystery too!
It was lovely to hear you were able to say goodbye to your friend.
God sure does work in mysterious ways

Re: Guess I will never know
Thank you both Linda and Mia, there really doesn't seem to be any logical explanation, I did think of taking the envelope to Eileen's daughter to see if she recognised the handwriting, but thought at her mother's funeral was not an appropriate place, so didn't take it along with me, this will remain to be one of life's little mysteries.
